Recognizing Achievement And Excellence 

The SMCCCD Alumni Association Alumni of the Year Awards 

 The San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation and SMCCCD Alumni Association recognize achievement of an exceptional nature in any field as well as continued contributions to the community and/or our three colleges. 

Nominating a friend, colleague, or fellow alumnus for the SMCCCD Alumni of the Year Awards requires the following simple steps: 

  • A completed nomination form 

  • A statement of nomination detailing why the nominee should be considered for this award 

  • The deadline to submit nominations shortly be announced. 

Nominate an Outstanding Alumnus 

Award Criteria 

This award recognizes individuals who have attended San Mateo County Community College District colleges – Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College, and served their community in an exemplary manner. Individuals are recognized for: 

  • professional excellence in his/her respective field or profession, 

  • being an outstanding citizen, 

  • for serving as an excellent representative of the quality education provided by the San Mateo County Community College District colleges 

Eligibility 

Eligibility for the Alumni of the Year Award is as follows: 

  • Candidates must have attended one of the three San Mateo County Community Colleges for at least two semesters or completed at least 24 units of study, 

  • At least five years have elapsed since graduation, 

  • A recipient may only receive the award once, 

  • The award is given to no more than one person from each college annually 

  • The recipient must be present to accept the award (event date and location to be announced).  

Selection 

Nominations for the SMCCCD Alumni of the Year are reviewed by a committee of SMCCC Foundation and college leaders. Recommendations are forwarded to the Foundation’s Executive Director and Chancellor, who make the final selections. 

Notes 

Nominees should not be informed that they are under consideration since only one honoree from each college is chosen each year. 

Nominees not selected for the current year's Alumni of the Year Awards will remain on file for three years for future consideration.
